Garth wants Eichel to make McDavid money so it can somehow legitimize him as his equal.

Eichel has done nothing yet to earn over 10 million a year ... maybe if he starts to play some defense and stop coasting to the bench he'll be worth about 9 mil a year

Chiarelli shafted the rest of the NHL with the McDavid deal. He exploded the market for everyone else. Not we have to talk about signing Eichel for $10+. That's why a deal is not done. Eichel has not earned $10+ in the slightest. But there's the new standard of the NHL. Paying for potential v. production.

IMO, if Eichel stays healthy and our gawd awful D is even 30% better, I think Eichel hits the 100 point mark.... I will gladly pay whatever it takes for that. he has not earned it yet but he absolutely has the potential to earn it. That is just the way it is in today's NHL. Eichel WILL get paid.

Auston Mathews needs to get 95+ points this season to demand McDavid money, and Leafs management will not play hardball no matter what you say if he does score that much. He's in the picture anyway.

I've seen how unreasonable expectations have destroyed players stays in Toronto over and over and over again....I know what you mean about TSN though. My eyes glaze over when I see the same Leafs story 3 , 4 or 5 times a day.

Unreasonable expectations can be a killer. Thats what I dont understand about Garth.

He calls Eichel a generational talent ( he's not) and wants so badly for Eichel to make McDavid money so he can call him the 1a from his draft class. Does he not think unrealistic expectations for Eichel will soon follow?
